Funeral services for Thomas McCullough, 76, of Sac City, were held Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sac City. Father Larry McCarty officiated the 10 a.m. service.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 590 and the American Legion Cantigy Post 195. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Sac City was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. McCullough passed away Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Thomas L., the son of William and Martha (Hallahan) McCullough, was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Okaton, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. He graduated from I.C. High School in Cherokee in 1941 and graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He then enlisted in the Air Force and became a fighter pilot in 1943. He was sent to Hawaii for further training and then to Iwo Jima to fly over Japan in a P-51 Mustang plane. During his time in the service he was honored with several medals. Following World War II, Mr. McCullough attended Creighton University Law School.

He married Jean Cosgrove of Cherokee in 1946.

Mr. McCullough practiced law in Walthill, Neb., Sac City and Lake View. He loved the practice law and trial litigation. He was a member of the Iowa and Nebraska Bar Association, the Trial Lawyers of America and served on the Iowa Board of Governors and the Veteran organizations in Sac City.

Mr. McCullough was preceded in death by his parents; three children: Thomas, Mary and Brian and one great-granddaughter Cynthia Jorgensen.

He is survived by his wife Jean; three sons: Colin of Sac City, Thomas and his wife Janet of Cedar Rapids and Peter of Vista, Calif.; five daughters: Julia Roth of Lake View, Margaret McCullough Granatham and her husband Mark of DelMar, Calif., Mollie and her husband Ron Jorgensen of Storm Lake, Erin McCullough and her husband Richard Eberle of Lake View and Lisa Toscano and her husband Andre of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
