Planning for the future of the Alta school district has continued as the Facilities Study Committee has found touring neighboring district facilities beneficial.
The progress of the study committee was reviewed during Monday night's board meeting.
The study committee has recently visited schools in Cherokee, Storm Lake and Sioux Central. They plan to visit the Webster City schools and the Clear Creek Elementary on March 21. If another tour is needed it will be scheduled on March 28. For those wanting to go on the March 21, tour, the group will leave the high school at 8 a.m.
"The tours have been going very well," Superintendent Fred Maharry said. "We've come up with some really good ideas on our visits and have been able to come back and have some really good discussions about the them."
Following the tours, the study committee has discussed the different needs the community could see as well as the different strengths and priorities. The committee continues to break things down to see what the exact priorities are and what may or may not be a top concern at this stage of the game.
Maharry said by going to the other schools they have come up with ideas that might not have otherwise been brought up such as handicap accessibility and classroom size.
