A Carroll man will make two presentations warning people against drinking and driving to Alta and Aurelia seventh through 12th grade students and staff.
Russ Reineke's 24-year-old son, Dale Reineke, and 21-year-old friend Kristi Nielsen from Carroll were killed, and his son's fiancee and another friend were seriously injured in a Nov. 24, 2001 collision near Jefferson.
A vehicle struck their van with two 16-year-old girls from Odebolt, who had been drinking the night before the early morning collision. The teens were killed instantly.
To reinforce his message, Reineke brings along the crumpled vehicles involved in the deadly collision. He bought them from a salvage yard and mounted them on a trailer. He also brings enlarged portraits of the victims of the collision, as well as pictures of the hospitalized survivors.
The public is invited to attend either presentation on Monday, Oct. 17, at the Aurelia High School at 9:30 a.m., or on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Alta High School at 10 a.m.. The vehicles will stay at each school for two days as a stark reminder of what can and does happen when people drink and drive.
