Quarterback Jared Bruce threw four touchdown passes here Friday night, two to his brother Jacob as Aurelia outgunned Charter Oak-Ute 50-28.
With the win, the Bulldogs bounced back after last week's lost to Remsen-Union, improving to 5-1 overall and to 1-1 in Eight Man, District 3.
Offense dominated in a first quarter which saw both teams score 22 points. The Bulldogs continued the offensive onslaught in the second quarter, scoring 28 points.
More importantly, the Aurelia defense allowed just six points the rest of the way for the win. Charter Oak scored a touchdown the second quarter and neither team scored in the second half.
Charter Oak Ute opened the scoring in the first quarter on a five-yard run by Matt Kunze. The Bulldogs struck back with two straight scores, the first coming on a 64 yard run by Jared Bruce.
Jared connected with his brother Jacob later in the first quarter on a 33-yard scoring pass. Charter Oak's Sheldon Christopherson scored the next touchdown on a 2-yard interception return.
With 2 minutes, 22 seconds left in the opening quarter, Aurelia's Brad Gustafson scored on a one-yard run. Charter Oak tied it at 22, capping a drive with a one-yard plunge.
In the second quarter, Christopherson gave Charter Oak a 28-22 lead on a 26-yard scoring run.
The Bulldogs responded with four straight touchdowns. Gustafson scored on an 11-yard run with 10:29 left in the second. Three and a half minutes later, Jared Bruce connected with Chris Mikos for an eight-yard scoring pass.
The Bruce brothers combined for a 54-yard scoring pass with 2:53 left in the half. Bruce threw a 31-yard scoring pass to Mikos with 31 seconds left in the second quarter. He ran for the extra-point to conclude the night's scoring.
The Bulldogs put up some gaudy offensive numbers, running 36 times for 177 yards. Jared Bruce was nine of 18 in passing for 182 yards.
Jared Bruce also led the Aurelia running game, rushing 14 times for 118 yards. Gustafson run 16 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Bruce caught two passes for 87 yards and two scores while Mikos caught five passes for 90 yards and two TDs.
At linebacker, Gustafson and Josh Lyon each finished with 16 tackles. Jacob Bruce added 13 with Mikos notching six tackles.
The Aurelia defense forced Charter Oak-Ute to five fumbles, recovering three of them. Jacob Bruce also added an interception.The Bulldogs play host to district opponent Whiting Friday night.
