Jean and Randy Stoberl, of Manning, were honored as "Parents of the Year" by Buena Vista University during BVU's Family Weekend.
BVU students submit nominations for the "Parent(s) of the Year" award by writing an essay to a panel of BVU administrators for review. The Stoberls were nominated for the award by their daughter, Amy, who is a senior social work major at BVU.
"Mom and Dad have been more than the dictionary definition of parents," wrote Amy in her nomination essay. "They have been my providers, supporters, role models, friends, caregivers, and so much more."
"I admire my parents for the strength, courage, and dedication they have shown throughout the years; I am proud to call them my mom and dad. They have gone through so much without once getting or wanting any acknowledgment...They have taught us to work hard, never give up, give back to others, and rely on our faith and each other when the going gets tough," wrote Amy.
The award, which annually recognizes parents for their support of their son or daughter's college education, was announced at halftime of the BVU football game on Saturday, Sept. 24.
