Storm Lake and Buena Vista University will get a special treat on Thursday, Sept. 29.
The group "BREAK! The Urban Funk Spectacular" from the streets of the bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, Miami and L.A. will perform a hip hop dance show built around unique and acrobatic break-dancing moves.
The internationally-known troupe will be showing off its tricks at Schaller Chapel on the BVU campus at 8 p.m. tonight with a special teaser in the Forum Ballroom from 5-6 p.m.
The shows are brought to BVU courtesy of the school's ACES program, which is dedicated to bringing cultural and academic programs from all over the world to benefit the students. The "BREAK" group is based out of New York City and brings its unique style of east coast hip hop to the table as 6 - 7 of the 18 in the group will be participating in the BVU shows. The group will consist of a DJ, a drummer, and dancers ranging in ages from late teens to early twenties. These dancers have been professionally trained and have performed all over the country, including break battles in New York. They have added latin-flavored moves. The troupe has performed with stars such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, B2K, 50 Cent, Ringo Star, Whitney Houston, Puff Daddy and Luther Vandross.
