DES MOINES - Nick Ford poured in a game-high 28 points to lead four players in double figures as No. 1-ranked Pomeroy-Palmer cruised past Iowa City Regina 74-58 in the first round of the Class 1A boys state basketball tournament Monday at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines.
Pomeroy-Palmer, now 24-0, will face either Lynnville-Sully or Treynor in the semifinals on Thursday morning.
Pomeroy-Palmer held a 21-11 lead after the first quarter and 40-19 at the half. It was 53-38 entering the fourth period.
Dustin Thompson scored 13 points and Chris Hanssen added 12 for the Knights.
Thompson and Ford each had six assists, while Ford cleared six rebounds.
Pomeroy-Palmer was 22 of 48 from the field for 46 percent, including 6 of 19 from 3-point. Iowa City Regina was 19 of 39 for 49 percent. The Knights outrebounded Regina 32-19.
