Porcelain Artists plan spring show and Easter sgg sale at SL's Witter Gallery

Tuesday, March 13, 2001

The Storm Lake Porcelain Artists club will be hosting their Spring Show and Easter Egg Sale on Saturday, March 31, at the Witter Gallery from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The 20-member club would like to invite the public to come to this event, which will feature over 100 porcelain china Easter eggs for sale. Each egg has been hand painted and signed by a member artist and will make wonderful keepsakes and collectibles.

There will also be displays of work by other members, ranging from small jewelry, large and small vases, decorations, boxes, teapots and much more. Coffee, punch and snacks will be served and door prizes will be given away each hour.

Local Storm Lake artist and teacher Marilyn Mittlstadt has painted a beautiful coffee/choc-olate pot with six matching cups and saucers, valued well over $300. It is done in her fine delicate style and is sure to be a cherished treasure for some lucky individual whose name will be drawn for it. Many are already familiar with Mittlstadt's art work and has been recognized both locally and nationally for her talent.

The Storm Lake club has two other members who are certified teachers, Arlene Blair, of Rockwell City and Dorothy Bonnes, of Sioux City. Other members from the area include members from Cherokee, Lake City, Paullina and Sac City. Storm Lake's club is one of 22 clubs with nearly 300 members who belong to Iowa's chapter of the World Organization of China Painters (WOCP).

Once or twice a year, a recognized artist from around the area or a neighboring state is hired by the club to conduct a one to three day seminar to teach new techniques and improve their knowledge of the meticulous ancient art. Club members are anxious to show their work to the area public.
