The Aurelia High football team improved to 2-0 here Friday night, winning a non-district, home-opening game 39-12 over Ar-We-Va.
Aurelia led 7-0 after one quarter and outscored Ar-We-Va 14-6 in the second quarter for a 21-6 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs led 27-6 after three quarters and outscored Ar-We-Va 12-6 in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
Aurelia opened the scoring early in the first quarter on a 34-yard interception return by defensive back Chris Mikos.
With 4 minutes, 29 seconds left in the second quarter, Ar-We-Va scored on a 68-yard pass play but the PAT kick failed as Aurelia still led 7-6.
The Bulldogs scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, including on a 1-yard plunge by fullback Chris Handy and a 20-yard scoring pass from Jared Bruce to Jacob Bruce.
Aurelia took a 27-7 lead midway through the third quarter on a 29-yard scoring pass from Jared Bruce to Mikos.
Just five seconds into the fourth quarter, Aurelia halfback Mike White scored on a 1-yard run for a 33-6 advantage. Bulldog quarterback Randy Jessen hit Jacob Bruce on a 10-yard scoring pass with 7:25 left in the game.
Ar-We-Va completed the night's scoring on a 44-yard scoring pass.
The Bulldogs ran 37 times for 189 yards and passed for 259 yards on 17 of 33 completions. Aurelia outgained Ar-We-Va 448 yards to 189 yards in total offense.
White led the Bulldogs in rushing, gaining 68 yards on eight carries. Handy ran 11 times for 49 yards while Brad Gustafson gained 38 yards on 11 attempts. Jared Bruce ran seven times for 34 yards.
At quarterback, Jessen completed three of eight passes for 30 yards and one touchdown. Jared Bruce completed 14 of 25 passes for 229 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Jacob Bruce caught eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns, while Mikos made four catches for 58 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Gustafson led the way with 15 tackles, while Handy and Aaron Hinkeldey each finished with nine tackles. Josh Lyon and Jacob Bruce each added six tackles.
The Bulldogs play at home Friday night against Elkhorn-Kimbalton.
