A former police officer convicted of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse has been denied a new trial.
Dan Mason, 38, a 14-year veteran of the Mason City Police Department, was convicted in June. He faces up to two years in prison.
Mason was charged with third-degree sexual assault in December 2004. Earlier in the year, he was accused of raping a 20-year-old Mason City woman while off duty. A jury found him guilty of the lesser charge. Mason was charged in two other sexual assault cases in early 2005 and was fired.
