A Storm Lake Bike-a-Thon is being organized to raise funds for St. Jude's Children's Hospitals and their treatment for illnesses such as pediatric leukemia. Riders will gather at Frank Starr Park August 27, 1 p.m., and ride to the marina. Sponsor forms are available at Lakeshore Cyclery. For more information, contact Ron Stevenson, 732-7329.


The 1st Annual Wallapalooza will kick off on August 20, in Schaller. Starting at 1 p.m. there will be a mud volleyball tournament. Beginning at 2 p.m., there will be live bands, featuring Two and a Half, 20/20 Hindsight, and Open Season. Wallapalooza is taking place at the Jaycees ballfield, Highway 110. Gates open at noon, $10.

Guitar concert

Accomplished guitarist Keith L. Cooper will perform a free concert Sunday, August 28, at 6 p.m. at Summit Church in Alta. Cooper has previously appeared as lead guitarist with Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, which drew a crowd of over 600 last December at the Alta church.

Cars 'n quilts

Wel-Life at Alta will be celebrating their 5th Anniversary on Sunday, August 21 from 2 - 4 p.m. Featured will be a 1/2 mile quilt show, with quilts made by residents, resident's families and friends of Wel-Life. There will also be an antique and classic car show, with over 20 cars from yesteryears available to view. There will be an ice cream and cake social, and raffle tickets for a hand made quilt are being sold, $1 each or 6 for $5.

Spuds & Splits

Trinity Lutheran Church will be hosting their annual Spuds and Splits fundraiser dinner Sunday, August 21 at the Alta Community Center. Servings at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for a large baked potato (with some new toppings added), a banana split and a drink. Everyone is welcome for food, fun and fellowship.
