Donald V. Fett

Donald V. Fett, age 84, of Alta, died on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1 at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Alta, with Pastor Mark Abraham officiating. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rights by Alta VFW Post #6172. Barker Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.
Don was born December 20, 1920 to August and Mamie Schweitzer Fett. He was born and lived on the family farm one half mile west and one mile north of the Hanover settlement, southwest of Alta. Don was baptized on Jan. 9, 1921 and confirmed on March 25, 1932 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover. He attended St. John Lutheran School through the eighth grade and graduated from Alta High School with the class of 1938. He completed one year at Buena Vista College. Don served in the United States Air Force during World War II earning his wings in 1945 as a fighter pilot.
On Sept. 5, 1945 Don was united in marriage to Margaret Ebert at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, Pa. This marriage was blessed with three daughters.
Along with farming, Don had his own painting business. He retired from farming and moved to Alta in 1991. Don enjoyed church and civic activities, golf, and playing cards. He had a great love for his family and friends and will be remembered for his mile-high lemon meringue pies.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; three daughters, Lynn and Jim Turnquist of Omaha, Neb., Jeanne and Bill Dahl of Plano, Texas, and Margy and Doug Joslin of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren, Amy and Tim Courter of Cleveland, Ohio, Beth and Gus Bassani of Houston, Texas, Sara Turnquist of Nashville, Tenn., Jeff Dahl and Brandon and Jen Dahl of Plano, Texas, Chad and Lucy Joslin of Chicago, Ill., and Todd and Jodi Joslin of Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchildren, Ben and Nathan Courter, Isabel Bassani and Brian Joslin; one brother, Gordon and Marilyn Fett of Storm Lake; and other extended family members and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Janie Courter; and three brothers, Robert, Harold and LuVurn.

Dorothy McGowan, 89, of Storm Lake and formerly of Fonda, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005 at the Methodist Manor Care Center in Storm Lake.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Aug. 1, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, with Father Thomas Hart officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Fonda under the direction of the Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda.
Friends called on Sunday, July 31, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda, where a parish vigil service was held at 7 p.m.
Dorothy Delamore was born April 4, 1916 in Clare, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (McMahon) Delamore.
Dorothy was employed at Iowa State University in Ames, Le Ellis Insurance Agency in Des Moines and the U.S.D.A.-A.S.C. in Fort Dodge.
In September 1973, Dorothy married John J. McGowan. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Fonda. Later, they moved to Storm Lake.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, John of Storm Lake; sister-in-law Helen Riley of Emmetsburg; and nephew Dennis Delamore of Irvine, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret Delamore; and two brothers, Tom and twin brother Donald.
