DAR shares the spirit of freedom with book donations

Tuesday, August 2, 2005

The Iowa Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has asked their members to place the book, "Declaration of Independence" in all the libraries where members reside as part of the Sharing the Spirit of Freedom project. A copy of this book was purchased and placed in the Newell library for everyone to enjoy. The book commemorates the completed collection of the autographs of all the signers of the Declaration of Independence housed in the archives in Washington, D.C.

Samuel Fink, the book's illustrator, is famous for illustrations geared to the young minds. The book is placed in the children's section of the libraries. In all five books have been bought by the Buena Vista DAR Chapter to be placed in the Schaller, Newell, Alta and Storm Lake libraries.

It is hoped that the book can be placed in all 509 libraries across the state where there is no DAR chapter.
