Alta U-14 bb team wins tourney in West Des Moines

The Alta 14-and-under baseball team went 6-0 here recently to win the West Des Moines Summer Sizzler Tournament.

In game one, the Cyclones lost a 5-3 decision to the West Des Moines Yankees. Alta's Jeremy Heemer hit a double, while Matt Rowen scored two runs, Michael Huseman went 1 for 3 and Justin Roberts doubled.

Alta rebounded with a 9-1 decision over I-35/Truro. Jack Mills got the mound win, tossing a one-hitter while striking out six and walking three.

Offensively, Mills hit a double and walked twice, while Scylan Radke went 1 for 2 and Austin Stille went 1 for 2 with two runs-scored.

In game three, the Cyclones edges Lakeville, Minn. 7-6. Rowen was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits in five innings. He struck out one and walked two.

Andrew Allerdings went 3 for 4 with a double, while Jacob Syndengaard was 2 for 4 with a homer. Tyler Down was 2 for 3 with a double.

In game four, Alta routed South Omaha, 18-1, with Radke getting the mound win.

Hemer went 3 for 3 with two doubles and nine other players had at least one hit each.

In the tourney semifinals, the future Cyclones edged Lakeville again, this time 9-8.

Stille went the first 4 1/3 innings and allowed six runs while Syndengaard got the win in relief. Justin Roberts threw the last inning, notching a save.

Roberts hit a game-winning three-run homer for Alta, while Stille added a double and Syndengaard a double.

In the championship game, Alta avenged game one loss, beating West Des Moines, 4-3.

Roberts went the full seven innings to record the mound win, allowing just three earned runs on six hits. He walked five and struck out three.

Each getting hits for Alta were Allerdings, Syndengaard, Down, Rowen and Hemer.

Syndengaard scored two crucial runs, while Down had a key sacrifice bunt.

According to coach Monte Roberts, his team played outstanding defense in the game.
