Storm Lake rapper set to go solo with Eastside Muzik

Thursday, July 28, 2005

Eastside Muzik rolled into Storm Lake last weekend, just one of their many stops on their 20 state promotional tour. Riding in a van which they referred to as a "driving billboard," rappers Bullet, Noe (No One Else), and On One are spreading the word about Eastside Muzik.

Eastside Muzik record label was started by Bullet in 1998. Bullet, a native of Iowa, worked as CEO of the company and sought to help other Iowa performers get into the rap business when he wasn't recording his own albums.

Signing new acts along the way, Bullet still keeps an eye out for local talent.

"This is where I'm from and this is important to me," Bullet said about keeping his roots alive through music.

About a year ago, Bullet received a demo tape from a rapper named Noe Gonzales. Bullet liked what he heard, but the selling factor was Noe's origination: Noe was an Iowan, born and residing in Storm Lake.

Once a troubled teen in Storm Lake, the music helped to redirect Gonzalez' life. Bullet signed Noe on to the label, making him a member of the rising underground rap movement of Eastside Muzik Inc.

Noe has been helping promote Eastside Muzik records and has appeared on some recordings as a guest rapper. His debut solo album is expected to come out next year.

Thursday was Noe's first day in Storm Lake in over a year, and he expressed happiness over being back in his hometown.

"I feel like I'm on top of the world. There's a lot of kids here that have the same dreams... I'm keeping our dreams alive," Noe said.

Leo of Bullet Management added that Noe and Eastside Muzik are hoping to do a show in Storm Lake, possibly at Malarky's Night Club, sometime within the next year.

Despite seven successful years of operation, Eastside Muzik Inc. is going through a transition period right now. Their website explains: "Eastside Muzik Inc. is making the transition from an independent record label to a rap and R&B music distributor." Eastside Muzik owns the rights to 17 albums, and has currently sold over 35,000 records. Bullet remains the biggest act signed on to the company, as he has put out eight albums so far. Other rappers who are part of Eastside Muzik are J-Trey, whom Bullet describes as the most successful Iowa native R&B rap group, Texas T, Juice, and On One, to name a few.

This summer, Eastside Muzik is taking their talent on the road in a unique promotional venture. "A proven leader in the Pacific Northwest Rap scene, Bullet is back again setting new standards on how to promote, advertise, and sell records all over the world," their website explained.

Eastside Muzik uses two fully wrapped vans and a seven man promotional team to sell their records throughout the U.S. and overseas. In the global scene, Japan is the number one buyer of Eastside Muzik records overseas.

On July 1, Eastside Muzik started their current promotional run. The three rappers, along with Leo, of Bullet Management, will travel to more than 20 states to sign autographs, sell t-shirts and posters, and have all of the 17 Eastside Muzik Inc. records available for sale.

They hope to take their brand of rap music to many new audiences along the way.Their promotional tour will conclude in mid November.
