The annual ISU Extension Farm Leasing Workshop will be held in Buena Vista County on August 23 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the AEA Building, 824 Flindt Drive in Storm Lake.
Farmers and landlords alike are invited to review current farmland information including the new cash rent and land value surveys. A 100-page notebook containing the latest issues of pertinent ISU Extension Farm Management publications is provided with the program. Also included are forms that may be copied including lease forms.
Tom Olsen, ISU Ag Business Specialist will present the program. Topics of the workshop include:
*Why is Land So Crazy High?
A look at land ownership economics especially in view of 1031 tax-free exchanges.
*Why Can't Farming Be Like It was in the 70's?
An examination of current farm returns and costs of living.
*So What About Rents?
A rational look at determining rental rates.
*Leasing Under the Law
Liens, Loans, Liability
*Question and Answer Session
