Siouxland Blood Bank here Aug. 2

Tuesday, July 26, 2005

The Siouxland Community Blood Bank has urgent needs for all blood types and blood donations are needed immediately to prevent blood shortages in our area. Your donation will make an immediate impact and ensure blood products will be available in a moment's notice.

The Siouxland Community Blood Bank supplies all blood products to the 35 hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota including Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. The Siouxland Community Blood Bank will be in Storm Lake Tuesday, Aug. 2 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Specialty Clinic.

Donations benefit not only the daily needs for surgery patients, cancer patients, and newborn babies and their mothers, but also in being prepared for accidents. Both hospitals and patients depend on you to give blood.

To be eligible to donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old (16 in Iowa with a Siouxland Community Blood Bank signed parent consent form). However, there is no upper age limit as long as the donor is in good health. In addition, donors need to weigh over 110 pounds and not have donated whole blood in the past 56 days. A photo I.D. is required at the time of registration, along with a list of medications donors are currently taking.
