Five vie for Buena Vista County fair queen

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Five young women from Buena Vista County are vying for the crown and title of Buena Vista County Fair Queen.

This year's contest will take place Saturday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grandstand.

The contestants will be interviewed by a panel of judges who will consider many traits including character, leadership and community involvement.

The 2005 Buena Vista County Fair Queen will be crowned by the 2004 queen Lindsay Landgraf.

Judging will take place Thursday July 21 at 1 pm hosted by the Ladies of First Presbyterian Church in Alta.

The 2005 queen will appear at area events throughout the month and compete in the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest in Des Moines in August.

This year's judges are Courtney Barnes (State Fair Queen) of Adel; Tracy Pickhinke of Early, and Erin Leonard of Lake Charles, LA.

Sponsors of the event include Iowa Lakes Electric who has donated a $250 savings bond to the queen, the BVC Fair Board and the Meyer Sisters of Alta.

Don't forget to come out and dunk your favorite candidate or last year's queen in the dunking tank each day of the fair from 1-5 p.m. This event helps raise money for the contest.
