Funeral services for Herbert Sievers, 90, will be held Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Pastor Steve Schulz will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service.
Pallbearers will be Myron Sievers, Stan Sievers, Keith Miller, Robert Sievers, Phillip Sievers and Dennis Gutz.
Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Sliefert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Sievers passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Herbert Ernest, son of John and Dora (Behrens) Sievers was born Dec. 29, 1910, at home in Grant Township, Buena Vista County.
He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on Jan. 22, 1911, and confirmed that baptism on April 5, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church.
He received his education at Zion Lutheran School and attended Storm Lake Public School for one year.
On Dec. 29, 1934, he was united in marriage to Iona Sievers at the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage.
Following their marriage, Mr. Sievers farmed until 1965 and then moved to Storm Lake. He was a Buena Vista County supervisor for four years and county treasurer for 16 years before his retirement in 1980. The couple enjoyed 15 winters in Texas after their retirement.
Mr. Sievers was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving as an elder, treasurer and chairman of the building committee. He was currently a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where he served as an elder and treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons Maynard and Elwin Sievers; two sisters and one brother.
Mr. Sievers is survived by his wife Iona of Storm Lake; one son Randy and his Jan Sievers of Storm Lake; one daughter-in-law Joyce Sievers of Smithville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
