Laurens-Marathon standout Jacqulyn Schmidt qualified for the state meet in four events here Saturday, pacing the Charger girls track and field team to a fourth place in a Class 1A district meet.
Schmidt, the defending 1A champion in the 100 hurdles, won that event Saturday in 14.53 seconds. The talented senior also qualified in the 100 meter dash, taking fifth with a time of 12.89 seconds.
The top two individuals and relay teams advanced to state automatically and the next eight best times and distances also qualify. Schmidt made state in the 100 by virtue of having one of those best eight times.
Also individually, senior Kristi Brechler qualified for state in the 100 hurdles by taking third in 15.32 seconds.
Schmidt led off both the Chargers' winning 4x100 and shuttle hurdle relays.
The shuttle hurdle team of Schmidt, Brechler, MacKenzie Bell and Megan Hofmaster won in 1 minute, 8.31 seconds while the 4x100 team of Schmidt, Brechler, Diana Johnsen and Megan Cleveland won in 52.59 seconds, edging second-place Ventura by .19 seconds.
