Community Theatre sets musical tryouts

Thursday, April 28, 2005

Buena Vista Community Theatre announces auditions for this year's summer musical, In The Beginning (The Greatest Story Never Told). Music and lyrics are by Maury Yeston (Titanic, Phantom, Nine, Grand Hotel), based on the book by David Hahn.

This hilarious and touching musical tells the story of those ordinary, everyday people who were around, but not mentioned in the first five books of the Old Testament. With fast-paced chorus numbers and beautiful ballads and duets, we follow our "tribe" as they somehow survive calamity after calamity in Eden, the wilderness, the flood, Egypt, and back in the wilderness. Throughout the story are themes of forgiveness, redemption, love and hope.

Staging Director will be Carol Huntzicker, Musical Director is Glee Crippin. Accompanist is Jeanette Hinkeldey.

Leading rolls include: one male comic, non-singing; three tenors; four sopranos; two high baritones; one singing male, age 7 to 9 years. Chorus - all ages are needed; angels, dancers, towns people, some with speaking roles.

Auditions will be held at the Roxy Theater on May 9, 10, and 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. Rehearsals start May 16. Performances will be held June 25, 26, and 30; and July 1 and 2. For college students who are returning home after May 11, call to make arrangements for late auditions.

Contact Carol Huntzicker at 732-4157 (after 5 p.m.) or Glee Crippin at 732-4503.
