An Alta man has been arrested and charged with setting fire to the rural home he shares with his father.
A house at 439 600th Street near Alta was destroyed in a fire early Tuesday morning. The Buena Vista County Communications Center received a 911 call from the home shortly before 3:30 a.m. Occupant Ronald Garlock reported that his home was burning.
The Alta Fire Department and deputies from the Buena Vista County Sheriffs Office responded, and found that the occupants of the home had escaped without injury.
The Alta Fire Department entered the burning house and contained the fire. The interior of the house received considerable smoke and fire damage and is considered a total loss. An investigation was begun into the cause of the fire by the Buena Vista Co Sheriff's Office and the Alta Fire Department.
The Sheriff's Office Fire/ Arson Investigator examined
the scene and combined with other information learned at the scene it was determined that this fire had been intentionally set. County officials declined to comment on the means or reason for the arson.
Michael Garlock, 20, was arrested for the arson and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail. He is charged with Arson 1st Degree and was held on a $13,000 cash bond. Damages are estimated at $25,000. There were no injuries.
