EMMETSBURG - Seven area wrestlers qualified for the state tournament after Saturday's Class 1A and 2A district meets held in Pocahontas and Emmetsburg, respectively.
In a Class 2A district, Storm Lake's Matt Nitchals, and AGH's Matt Gustafson and Jacob Brosamle all qualified for state, which begins Thursday at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines.
Nitchals won the 215-pound title by beating Sheldon's Dan Kruger 3-2 in the finals. Nitchals won by decision 3-0 in the first round.
Gustafson placed second at 130 pounds, falling to Jeff Reierson of Estherville in the finals. Brosamle was runner-up at 189 pounds, falling to Travis Hinners of Emmetsburg in the final round.
Emmetsburg won the team title with 176 points. Storm Lake was third with 53 and AGH sixth with 38.
Nic Wiley, Dylan Wagener, Matt Gervais and Ben Strandberg all finished third for Storm Lake. Wiley was a winner by pin in 30 seconds in his third-place match, while Wagener won by major decision 9-0. Gervais won by decision 9-5 and Strandberg by pin in 1:25.
Wagener lost 6-4 in a wrestleback for second place, while Gervais and Strandberg each lost by pin.
