STORM LAKE - Buena Vista learned who it will be playing in the first round of the Iowa Conference men's basketball tournament, and it won't be an easy task.
The Beavers, who are the No. 2 seed in the field with a 19-5 overall record, will host seventh-seeded Simpson tonight at 7 p.m. at Siebens Fieldhouse.
Buena Vista beat Simpson 87-84 at home in January, but lost to the Storm earlier this month in Indianola.
Simpson finished tied for seventh place with Central in the league, but won the tiebreaker. The Storm are 9-15 overall.
Top-seeded Wartburg hosts No. 8 Central, No. 3 seed Coe entertains No. 6 Cornell, and fourth-seeded Loras hosts No. 5 seed Luther tonight.
The semifinals are Friday night at the two remaining highest seeded teams. The finals are Saturday night.
Buena Vista drew the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 seed Luther tonight at 7 p.m. in Decorah. The Beavers enter the matchup with an 11-13 record while the Norse are 13-11.
The two teams split during the regular season, each winning on its home floor.
Top seed Wartburg will play host to eighth-seeded Upper Iowa, while No. 2 seed Simpson entertains Loras and No. 3 seed Central hosts Dubuque tonight.
The semifinals are slated for Friday night and the finals for Saturday night.
