Storm Lake boys first in nine-team Landsmeer Invite

The Storm Lake boys golf team was two-for-two on the weekend, winning a triangular meet Friday in Alta and following that up with an impressive won here Saturday in the Landsmeer Invitational.

Saturday, the Tornadoes finished first in a tough, nine-team field with 309 team strokes. Sioux Center was third with 329 strokes, followed by MOC/Floyd Valley with 329 strokes.

Aaron Clausen led Storm Lake Saturday with a 37-36 - 73. Senior Jay Severson carded a 37-38 - 75 while senior Adam Ponsor added a 39-39 - 78.

Kyle Nielsen shot a 44-39 - 83, Zach Peterson added a 47-37 - 84 and senior Ben Thompson a 44-43 - 87.

Friday in a nine-hole meet at Alta, Storm Lake won with 157 strokes, followed by 168 by Alta and 173 by Aurelia.

Clausen was the meet medalist with a 36 and Peterson was second overall with a 39. Severson added a 40, Ponsor and Thompson shot 42's and Nielsen a 43.

Jon Weiland led Alta with a 41 while Joey Post and Adam Holton both carded 42's. Jeff Demers added a 43, with Tyler Boyd firing a 44 and Mark Robb a 47.

Ryan Guthridge and Nick Felten led Aurelia with 42's, while Gregg Kolpin added a 44, Kolin Peterson and Bryan Lemke 45's and Brad Jungers a 48.

The Storm Lake junior varsity team also won Friday with a total of 172 strokes. The Storm Lake B-team was second with 176 followed by Alta (192) and Aurelia (202).
