Buena Vista University students are readying their leather jackets and poodle skirts for the spring musical "Grease," a nostalgic modern-day classic musical comedy set at Rydell High School, circa 1959.
This production is a collaboration of the BVU theater and music departments. Open auditions were held in February to produce a cast that includes both students and members of the faculty.
Shows are April 28-30, 8 p.m. at Schaller Chapel on campus.
Grease has been a favorite of all ages since its debut on Broadway, followed by the original film version in 1978 with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
The gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace, and the drive in movie. Bobby sox and hot rods rule the streets.
Dr. Bethany Larson, assistant professor of theater, serves as director for "Grease."
Faculty members Stan Bochtler, Swasti Bhattacharyya and Stan Ullerich will play roles.
