Humorist Karel Murray will be keynote speaker for the fourth annual Women's Day of Health and Wellness at the Siebens Forum at Buena Vista University. The event is sponsored by Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, BVU, and CommUNITY education.

Ranked by past clients and attendees as an accomplished humorist, speaker and writer (Straight Talk - Getting Off The Curb...co-authored with K.C. In addition, she is a partner in H-CAP International, a consulting group based in Kansas City, Mo. with 14 active partners who have exceptional national business experience.

Murray's career experience encompasses regional human resource, accounting, relocation, marketing, training and administrative management in the commercial insurance and real estate fields. As a regional manager, she directed all employment activities, as well as managerial and professional training and development and recruiting. Selected for a nationwide re-organization of a commercial insurance company's operating structure, she also specialized in workflow issues, designed new service structures and developed training and implementation schedules.

In 1997, as the Broker/Manager of RE/MAX Heartland, Lee's Summit, Mo., she successfully managed 25 real estate associates and a $75 million branch office. In addition, she served as the Chairperson of the Blue Springs Missouri Chamber of Commerce. As a result of her community efforts, she was honored to receive the 1999 Chamber Ambassador's Award, one of six recipients in 35 years. In 2002, Murray was awarded the coveted Distinguished Real Estate Instructor designation from the Real Estate Educators Association (REEA) recognizing her for her effective presentation style. She holds a real estate broker's license and has earned four additional real estate designations.

As a result of her husband's corporate relocation, the family moved to Waterloo in January 1999 where they currently reside.

Nationally and internationally, Murray offers motivational and humorous presentations, sales and customer service training, and business and marketing programs in many formats: keynote, general or concurrent sessions, trainer, facilitator, moderator, and continuing education instruction.

She is the founder of the Professional Women's Resource Group.

"By focusing my topics on everyday issues related to career and life, my stories emerge to teach a lesson as well as tickle your funny bone," Murray commented. "Experiences that have shaped my life become fuel for the next presentation. It's about gaining perspective, insight, and making the most of my time on earth.

"Life, as they say, happens. At any time it can careen out of control and we simply hang on for the ride. This unexpected side trip usually occurs at the most inconvenient times ... and that's what makes each day just so darn interesting. I invite you to join me for an interesting, interactive, humorous journey."
