Outdoor-minded youth can travel by canoe, carry a backpack, hike and interact with nature this summer on wilderness trips sponsored by Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. Youth can travel to Pine Bluff in Iowa, the Boundary Waters, Isle Royale National Park or the Rocky Mountains.
Wilderness leaders trained by ISU Extension will lead the trips, which are open to adults and all youth including non-4-H'ers who meet age limits.
"You don't need to be a natural athlete, but you do need to be healthy and energetic," Marsha Morgan, ISU 4-H program specialist, said.
The June 3-5 family trip to Pine Bluff near Decorah will teach families how to tackle the great outdoors while canoeing down the Iowa River and camping and backpacking through northeast Iowa. Cost is $50 for adults and $45 for children under 12.
Youth age 14 and older can join one of four trips.
