Tyler Kirkholm, Storm Lake, will perform in the Buena Vista University Concert Band on Sunday, March 13 at 3 p.m. in Schaller Memorial Chapel on the BVU campus.
Kirkholm, a freshman and son of Mark and Nelda Kirkholm, Storm Lake, will play the tuba in the concert band.
The Buena Vista University Concert Band, performing its annual Winter Concert, will play a variety of pieces, including "Jubilus," a powerful fanfare by Belgium composer Jan Van der Roost. Also, the band will perform "Tancredi Overture" by Rossini; a march written in 1901 by R.B. Hall, "The New Colonial March;" and a suite of original music by composer James Barnes that is based on the Harry Potter book series called "Sorcery Suite."
Featured soloist will be Dr. Marc Woodridge, an associate professor of music at Northwestern College in Orange City. Dr. Woodridge will perform "The Life of King David" - Concerto for Marimba and Band" written for him by Minnesota composer Russell Peterson. He will also perform a medley of ragtime songs from the turn of the 20th century called "The Golden Age of Xylophone" by Floyd Werle.
Director of the band is Jerry Bertrand. The concert is open to the public, free of charge.
