T. Duane Erickson

Funeral services for T. Duane Erickson, 70, of rural Alpha, Minn., were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Minn., with Rev. Michael McCallum officiating.

Burial was in Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn, Minn. Full military honors were conducted by Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post 356 of Sherburn and the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8261. Kramer Family Funeral Home of Sherburn was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Erickson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at his farm home in rural Alpha.

Thomas Duane, the son of Forrest and Mamie (Lindblom) Erickson, was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Eagle Township, Kossuth County. He graduated from Armstrong High School in 1948.

On July 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Beulah Buchan at the Presbyterian Church in Alpha. He served in the United States Army from February 1952 until January 1954 and spent time in Karlsruhe, Germany Following his time in the service, he farmed in both Iowa and Minnesota.

Mr. Erickson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson where he served as an elder and on many other church committees, including the education committee of the Presbytery.

He was also a member of the Sherburn Lions, the Sherburn Chamber of Commerce, Sherburn Legion, Southwest Minnesota Association of Ridge Tillers and was a board member of Elk Creek Township. He enjoyed restoring farm tractors and was known as "Mr. Fix It."

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Howard Erickson and one brother-in-law Robert Hartke.

Mr. Erickson is survived by his wife Beulah; three sons: Scott and his wife Theresa Erickson of rural Alpha, Minn., Mark Erickson and special friend Mary Raveling of Storm Lake and Jon and his wife Renae Erickson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one brother Wendell and his wife Barbara Erickson of Northridge, Calif.; one sister Maxine Meyer of Maplewood, Minn.; one cousin David and his wife Betty Smith of Hudson, Wis., who was raised with the Erickson family; five sisters-in-law: Ida Mae Erickson of Armstrong, Peggy and her husband Walter Burgeson of Armstrong; Bonnie and her husband Merville Steen of Jackson, Minn., Joan Hartke of Sherburn, Minn. and Cleone and her husband Arthur Syverson of Odin, Minn.; one brother-in-law Beryl and his wife Elaine of Austin, Minn.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
