Plans are well underway for the third annual Linn Grove River Jamboree June 18.
Members of Linn Grove Community Enhancement Foundation Executive Board met this week to review plans and install new officers on the Board, as the artsy riverfront village continues to forge a bright future.
New for this year's Jamboree is a Spontaneous Sioux Valley All-School Reunion. There will also be music and a barbeque plus a Taste of Iowa exhibit featuring food entrepreneurs. Also new will be a raffle for a two-day vacation at The Inn At Okoboji. There will also be a display of antique and classic cars and tractors.
This year's Jamboree also features the Best Little Art Show by a Dam Site and Jam'men at the Dam. Artists will show and sell their original works in a tent-lined area around Linn Grove Landing's lawn.
Featured artists include Mark and Jennie Bogenrief, Stain Glass Studio; Wendell and Diane King, stone and steel tables and beaded jewelry; Steve and Beth Cathcart, western rustic furniture and pottery; Leonard Olson, Pomeroy Kaleidoscope Factory; Barb McGee, western watercolorist; Diane Noll, stone jewelry; and Gene Polson, pottery, and other artists. There will also be a student art this this year with judging by local watercolorist Barb McGee.
Acoustical musicians and vocalists will jam at the Art Stage and on Center Stage. Entertaining this year will be the Cherokee Jam Band and the Jimmy Davis Band, both from Cherokee. There will be children's activities and planners are looking for anyone who can help contribute information about Linn Grove's pioneer history.
Returning favorites include the parade and patriotic salute. The Linn Grove Clothing Company will have identity clothing and novelty items for sale. There will also be fundraising efforts to benefit local clubs, churches, organizations, and city beautification. Linn Grove Community Enhancement Foundation proceeds go toward Linn Grove projects, the Restaurant Building Fund, and the budget for the 2006 River Jamboree.
There will again be canoe and kayak excursions, a fishing contest, and other river-related activities.
This year, the Jamboree is getting organizational assistance from Jim Adamson, Rick Angel, and Dan Malloy of the Cherokee Jazz Festival.
Linn Grove Community Enhancement Foundation officers include Rob Wadsley, president and River Jamboree Chair; Quentin Sundberg, vice president; Denise Jorgensen, treasurer; Beth Cathcart, secretary; Diane Noll; Dr. Bonnie Meier; Linn Grove Mayor Denny Graesing; and new officers Pastor Russ Westbrook; Barb Wadsley; Lora Johnson; and Linda Patterson.
The Foundation will hold an open planning meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3 at the Riverside Presbyterian Church.
