Tourism leaders flock to city, Castle

Monday, February 14, 2005

The Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau will be hosting the Iowa Western Tourism Regional Annual Meeting in Storm Lake on February 23 at the Storm Lake Municipal Golf Course Club House.

Representatives from across Western Iowa will attend to hear updates from the Legislature and reports from western Iowa committees, to learn about state tourism programs and changes in the 2006 Regional Grant Program Applications.

The host city is given the opportunity to showcase an attraction prior to the meeting and Santa's Castle was chosen for the honors. Tours will begin at 10 a.m. for tourism leaders from across the state. Castle Committee members will be on hand to relay information about the development of the historic attraction and its animated characters.

Registration begins at 11:30 with lunch served at noon catered by Lakeshore Café. The afternoon is highlighted with speaker Nancy Landess, Manager of the Iowa Department of Tourism and a presentation of the Awaysis Project. The Tourism Office welcomes public questions and comments in advance so that they can be addressed during the meeting. Contact Nancy Landess at 888-472-6035. Representatives of Buena Vista area attractions are invited to attend and bring brochures.
