An overwhelming 74 percent of Storm Lake voters Tuesday approved a $3.5-million bond issue for Project Awaysis, a $29-million waterfront destination park.
There were 1,640 voters approving the project, with 541 voting against the measure. With a total of 5,477 registered voters, there was a 40 percent turnout, the highest that Commissioner of Elections Karen Strawn could remember.
The project had been awarded an $8-million Vision Iowa grant two exactly months ago ago, on Dec. 8. The grant award was based on successful approval of the bond issue.
