Girls Scout cookie sale kicks off

Girls Scouts of Lakota Council, a United Way agency, have announced the Girl Scout Cookie sale will begin on January 14-31.

Local Girl Scouts will be offering eight varieties of cookies: Thin Mint, Samoa, Trefoil, Tagalongs, DoSiDos, Double Dutch and Lemon Coolers. The price per box will be $3.50 and payment is not due until delivery between March 4 and March 14.

Girls Scouts of Lakota Council participants in this yearly even to help raise money for troop projects, materials, program events, community service projects, volunteer training and support, financial assistance to girls in need for membership dues and fees, membership extension, and to maintain Camp Lakota, a 175-acre camp where girls learn of the out-of-doors, horseback ride and swim.

By participating in the sale, girls learn how to set goals, be responsible, answer questions with confidence, handle money and follow through on a commitment.

The girls set personal goals while working as a team to fund troop activities and community service projects. Adult volunteers work with the girls to set realistic goals and guide them to reach these goals. In addition to the monetary proceeds from the cookie sales, girls also earn prizes and Bonus Bucks, which may be used to attend council sponsored programs, events and Camp Lakota.

Girls Scouts of Lakota Council's goal is to provide learning and growth opportunities.

The council offers over 40 annual programs to girls ranging from the arts, science and technology, social development, the out-of-doors, health and fitness, and travel. All programs are supported in party by the cookie sale. For every dollar in cookie sale proceeds, 92 percent pays for service and programs.
