ESTHERVILLE - A 14-point hole proved to be too much to overcome for Storm Lake as Estherville, ranked 11th in Class 3A, jumped out to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter and went on to post a 69-38 victory in a Lakes Conference game last Friday night.
The Midgets led 35-18 at halftime and 58-24 after three periods of play.
Lindsey Fredricksen and Jenny Woodford scored eight points apiece to lead Storm Lake. Molly Daniels added seven.
Fredricksen, Lori Sorenson and Billie Blanchard had four rebounds apiece, while Malay Bouaphakeo charted four steals and Brooke Overturf three.
Storm Lake shot 15 of 52 from the field for 29 percent. Estherville was 23 of 61 for 38 percent.
"We played tired," Storm Lake coach Stacey VanDerSloot said. "Three games in four days took a lot out of us. They ran the floor on us and we couldn't stop them defensively. We didn't get our shots to fall for us."
