IDA GROVE - Nic Wiley, Austin Brown, Brian Beal and Kris Hoeppner all won their matches by pin to help power Storm Lake to a 39-27 win over Battle Creek-Ida Grove on Saturday in Ida Grove.
Wiley won by pin in 5 minutes, 23 seconds at 112 pounds, while Brown won by pin in 3:23 at 145. Beal stuck his opponent in 4:37 at 160, while Hoeppner needed 3:30 to win by pin at 275 pounds.
Pete Harder won by decision 6-3 at 130, as did Matt Gervais 8-5 at 140. Jared Ponsor won 5-3 at 152 pounds, while Ben Strandberg was a 16-10 winner by decision at 189.
Matt Nitchals prevailed 9-2 at 215 pounds, while Tyler Nichols won by forfeit at 103 pounds.
"This was a great way for us to finish the regular season and move into the tournaments," Storm Lake coach Ty Seaman said. "We were very pleased with our performance. We wrestled hard and did a good job of staying in position and scored points when our opponents got out of position."
"Our kids wrestled with confidence and that is great to see at this time of the year, and will be very important in the tournaments," Seaman added.
Storm Lake, which finished the season 13-8-1 overall, wrestles in a Class 2A sectional tournament Saturday at noon in Cherokee.
