The Storm Lake Police responded to the Hy-Vee parking lot on North Lake Avenue shortly before 3:45 a.m. Sunday in reference to a report that a subject's car had been tampered with.

The victim reported he left his vehicle unlocked and running while he went into Hy-Vee. When he left the store, he observed a subject reaching into the driver's door and shifting the vehicle into reverse and allowing the vehicle to roll across the parking lot unattended. The victim then ran after his vehicle and was able to get in it and stop it prior to any damage occurring. The victim then chased the suspect and secured a vehicle description and license number.

Shortly after the incident, a Storm Lake Police officer located the suspect vehicle in a parking lot on the campus of Buena Vista University. The suspect, identified as Ryan Collison, 20, of Blenco, was charged with Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, a simple misdemeanor. He was charged and released pending a court date.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the Buena Vista Security Department.
