Tuesday, February 6, 2001

Shortly before 11:15 p.m. Sunday, Storm Lake Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a report of a disturbance.

Police learned a subject, identified as John Maneman, 36, of Varina, had been riding in a car with some minors and had purchased some alcohol for them. It was also determined Maneman had touched one of the female minors on the chest and made lewd comments towards her. When the vehicle arrived at the Wal-Mart parking lot, an argument ensued between Maneman and one of the males in the car. Maneman then spit on the male subject and struck him in the face with his fist.

As Maneman was exiting Wal-Mart, police took him into custody and charged him with Public Intoxication Enhanced, a serious misdemeanor, Supplying Alcohol to Minors, a serious misdemeanor, two counts of Simple Assault and Disorderly Conduct, both simple misdemeanors. He was transported and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail.

There were no reports of injuries in the incident and no alcohol was located by police. The Storm Lake Police was assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Department.
