Animal licenses required

Monday, January 10, 2005

The Storm Lake Police Department would like to remind all citizens that it is required by City Ordinance to purchase an annual license for your cats and dogs.

The license can be purchased at the Storm Lake Police Department located at 401 East Milwaukee Avenue. The annual fee is $10 for each neutered/spayed dog or cat and $20 for each dog or cat not neutered/spayed. A copy of the rabies vaccination information must be seen at the time the license is issued.

Upon the issuance of the license the owner to the animal will receive a tag which must be securely fastened to a collar or harness which must be worn by the cat or dog.

Also it is unlawful for an owner to allow their dog or cat to pass upon the premise of another, run at large or to disturb any person by frequent and habitual howling, yelping or barking.

Any violation of the above listed ordinances shall constitute a Municipal Infraction (First Violation - $75, Second Violation - $150, Third Violation - $225).

The Police Department reminds all citizens that traditionally December is the month to renew the dog and cat licenses for the new year.

During the year 2004, 99 dogs and cats were licenses in Storm Lake. Police warn that citations will be issued to anyone without the proper city license.

For more information on the licensing procedure feel free to contact the Police Department at 732-8010.
