Bud Hott of Newell thought it was pretty neat when he had a $3 win on an Iowa Lottery scratch-off ticket this week.
Hott, who is general merchandise and health and beauty care manager at the Storm Lake Hy Vee, had to run home for lunch Tuesday and on the way back stopped at Newell Coop Express and used that winning ticket to buy another one.
Fortunately, Hott didn't go into the ditch as he scratched off his ticket while driving to Storm Lake.
Hott's second ticket was good for $30,000, or $21,000 after taxes. Though Uncle Sam took a pretty good nip out of Hott's winnings, it's still nothing to sneeze at.
Hott hasn't decided exactly what he's going to do with the money yet. He knows one thing for certain though.
"They're going to have a good Christmas," Hott said of his family.
Hott's wife Lu Ann is helping him come up with ideas of how to spend the money.
"We've got lots of ideas," Hott said. "It's been a lot of fun. It just proves you can't win if you don't play."
