Storm Lake girls come up short to LeMars 49-47

STORM LAKE - A foul with 1.6 seconds reamining allowed LeMars to make a pair of free throws and give the Bulldogs a 49-47 victory over Storm Lake in a Lakes Conference game Tuesday night at Tornado Fieldhouse.

Storm Lake jumped out to a 14-11 lead after the first quarter, but LeMars held a 27-26 lead at the half. It was 37-36 LeMars entering the fourth period of play.

Brooke Overturf scored a career-high 20 points to lead Storm Lake, now 3-12 overall. Lindsey Fredricksen added seven points.

Billie Blanchard cleared seven rebounds, while Molly Daniels had six and Overturf five. Malay Bouaphakeo charted four assists and Lori Sorenson three steals.

Storm Lake was 15 of 51 shooting from the field for 29 percent. LeMars was 15 of 54 for 28 percent.

"We have developed so much as a team," Storm Lake coach Stacey VanDerSloot said. "Defense kept us in the game. We shut them down. Their big girl only had three points. Brooke had a great game."
