St. Mary's tops Rebels; AC-T falls to Knights

STORM LAKE - Eric Drey poured in 20 points and Eric Wordekemper and Billy Mach added 16 apiece to help fuel Storm Lake St. Mary's to a 67-61 victory over Sioux Central Tuesday night.

St. Mary's led 15-11 after the first quarter and 31-25 at the half. It was 50-39 after three periods of play.

Kyle Drey scored nine points for the Panthers, now 8-6 in the league and 8-8 overall. Wordekemper cleared eight rebounds and Kyle Drey seven. Billy Mach charted six assists and Wordekemper four assists and three steals.

St. Mary's shot 48 percent compared to Sioux Central's 44 percent. St. Mary's was 18 of 20 from the free-throw line.

"We hit some pressure free throws down the stretch and we did a good job of playing our tempo of game," St. Mary's coach Phil Skamser said. "We did a good job of accomplishing our defensive game plan."

Pomeroy-Palmer 69

Albert City-Truesdale 45

Nick Loots poured in 24 points and Nick Ford added 14 to help send No. 1-ranked Pomeroy-Palmer past Albert City-Truesdale in Northwest Conference play Tuesday night.

Pomeroy-Palmer, now 16-0 overall, trailed 18-17 after the first quarter but took a 28-26 lead at the half. The Knights used a 22-9 spurt in the third quarter to take a 50-35 lead into the fourth period.

Chris Hanssen scored 10 points for the Knights.

Dan Buske scored 15 points to lead AC-T. Caleb Garberding added eight and Jake Heuton seven.

Aurelia 74, AC-T 47

Tadd Suhr finished with 18 points and six rebounds, and Eric Sonksen added 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals as Aurelia topped Albert City-Truesdale.

The game was tied at 16-16 after the first quarter before Aurelia held leads of 38-27 at halftime and 52-32 after three periods of play.

John Bentsen added nine points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs. Tim Jones and Kasey Reilly each handed out five assists, while Heath Brecher charted six steals and Jones three.

Dan Buske led AC-T with 11 points. Jake Heuton added eight.
