Thursday, February 1, 2001

STORM LAKE - Scott Ellens scored a career-high 24 points and Jeff DeHaan added 19 as Storm Lake routed LeMars 78-63 in a Lakes Conference game Tuesday night at Tornado Fieldhouse.

Storm Lake jumped out to a 15-8 lead after the first quarter before extending it to a 32-18 advantage by halftime. It was 63-40 Tornadoes after three periods of play.

Nate Storm scored 15 points and Rory Fulcher nine for the Tornadoes, now 2-6 in the league and 3-9 overall.

Storm hauled down 10 rebounds, Ellens nine and DeHaan five. Storm and DeHaan each had four assists, while Ellens added three. DeHaan charted four steals and Kurt Hanna two.

Storm Lake was 28 of 43 shooting from the field for 65 percent. LeMars was 21 of 47 for 45 percent.

"The confidence has been brewing," Storm Lake coach Tim Keigan said. "We're kind of jelling right now and we put it all together. Everybody did their jobs. Our big guys hit the boards pretty hard and our guards played some pretty good defense harassing their 3-point shooters and getting out on them."

"Our people came off the bench and did a super job filling in for the starters and hitting the boards hard," Keigan added. "That's how we came away with the victory."
