Thursday, February 1, 2001

The Judicial Nominating Commission for Judicial District 3A has established procedures for filling the vacancy from the retirement of District Court Judge Joseph J. Straub.

Judge Straub has submitted his resignation effective May 4, 2001, so a vacancy in that office will occur on May 5, 2001.

Applicants are requested not to seek personal interviews with individual commission members.

Applicants must be members of the bar of Iowa, residents of Judicial District 3A, and of such age that they will be able to serve an initial and one regular term of office before reaching the age of 72.

Judicial District 3A consists of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, O'Brien, Osceola and Palo Alto Counties.

The commission will submit the names of two nominees to Governor Vilsack. Governor Vilsack will then appoint one of the nominees to be district judge.
