BV supervisors look into tax limit proposal

The Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors is looking into what the lastest property tax limitation proposal could mean for Buena Vista County.

The bill, supported by the Farm Bureau, aims to reform Iowa's property tax system and replace it with a limitation on property tax dollars.

In the past the words property tax limitation have had many local officials thinking property tax freeze, and rejecting the idea for fear of losing local control.

This time the Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors wants to take a more studied approach, and determine is exactly what such a measure would mean for the county - good or bad.

"We're all sort of in the same place - nobody has a good grasp on what that all means yet, including the board here and supervisors in other counties," Supervisors chairperson Lorna Burnside said. "It's something we have to work through."
