The Storm Lake High wrestling team opened the regular season here Thursday night at the SLHS gym, splitting a double dual with Laurens-Marathon and Pocahontas.
The Tornadoes opened with a 70-6 win over L-M, but lost 54-26 to powerful Pocahontas.
Storm Lake's 140 pounder Dustin Huffman was impressive in winning both of his matches. A state meet qualifer last season, Huffman opened the evening with a 16-3 major decision over Lewis Wenell of Laurens-Marathon.
A half-hour later, Huffman pinned Pocahontas' David Carlson at 3 minutes, 14 seconds of their match.
Storm Lake coach Ty Seaman said it was good to finally see some regular season action.
"We saw some things that we were real happy with and also found some areas we need to improve upon," he said.
"The kids that went out aggressively really had good performances. We need to get everyone to be aggressive and be the wrestler on offense."
