Stroke Detection Plus screening to be held at KC Hall Tuesday, December 7

Monday, November 29, 2004

Stroke Detection Plus, a Des Moines based mobile ultrasound service will be coming to Storm Lake to do stroke and vascular screenings. Stroke Detection Plus scans the carotid arteries in your neck. By taking pictures and measurements to look for blockage that could lead to a stroke, 75 percent of strokes could be detected before something serious occurs. They also screen for abdominal aortic aneurysm. This screening visualizes the existence of an aneurysm in the abdominal aorta that can rupture and be fatal. A third screening is for peripheral vascular disease, blockage in the arms and legs. An abnormal result here puts a participant at a three to five times greater risk for the onset of coronary artery disease. They are also offering Osteoporosis tests, which checks for abnormal bone mass density in men and women. All tests are pain free and non invasive. Stroke Detection Plus will be at the Knights of Columbus, on Tuesday, December 7 from 9:30 to 4:30. Each test is $35, except Osteoporosis, $25. Any three tests are $95. Full wellness profile, all four tests only $115. People interested in screening appointments or educational workshops for their group can call toll free 1-877-732-8258.
