Memorial services for Vera Anderson, 89, of Aurelia, will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the First United Church in Aurelia. Pastor Jack Weida will officiate the 1:30 p.m. service.
Mrs. Andersen passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Cherokee Villa Retirement Home in Cherokee, where she had been a resident since Sept. 14, 2000. The Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of the arrangements.
Vera Caroline, the daughter of Theodore and Edna (Ohlson) Nordstrom, Sr., was born May 8, 1911, in Diamond Township, south of Aurelia.
She attended Diamond Township School and graduated from Galva High School in 1928. Following graduation, she attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She began teaching in Alta and later in Cherokee, where she taught second grade, retiring after teaching for 22 years.
On June 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Oswald Andersen at the Methodist Church in Aurelia.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, WSCS, the Alta Chapter of PEO, Nokomis Study Club of Alta, Embroidery Club and Birthday Club.
Mrs. Andersen was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Muriel Brickson, Faye Elder and Edna O'Neal; three brothers: Wendell Nordstrom, Theodore (Ted) Nordstrom, Jr. and Reitzel Nordstrom and one son-in-law Charles Haskins.
She is survived by her husband Oswald of Aurelia; one son and his wife Orlyn and Joan Andersen of Aurelia; two daughters: Carolyn and her husband Richard Mefferd of Gilmore City and Marilyn Haskins of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; nine grandchildren; one sister and her husband Ann and Vincent Becker of Cherokee; one sister-in-law Lucille Nordstrom of Aurelia; one brother-in-law Gene Elder of Cherokee; other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
