Legendary jazz pianist warms up Valentine's Day

The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra will welcome internationally renowned jazz pianist Butch Thompson and guest conductor Peter Rubardt for its second Pops! Concert of the season, slated for Sunday afternoon, Feb. 11, at 2:30 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium.

Get in the romantic mood for Valentine's Day with this concert of jazz classics.

Minnesota native Butch Thompson came to the national fame during his 12 year run with A Prairie Home Companion on public radio. But for much longer he has been known around the world as a traditional jazz master whose command of the music of Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller and Scott Joplin is unsurpassed. In addition to the critical acclaim garnered from his numerous compact disc releases, Mr. Thompson is a winner of the 1995 Obie Award, the Lucille Lortell Award and the Outer Critics Circle Awards for his musical score to the off-Broadway show Jelly Roll! The Man and the Music.
