The South Central Iowa Science and Engineering Fair, to be held March 19 at Simpson College in Indianola, is seeking middle school and high school participants from the 56 counties in western Iowa including Buena Vista County. Assistant professor of Biology at Simpson Jackie Brittingham directs the fair which includes a junior division (grades 6-8) and a senior division (grades 9-12). Participants are asked to submit projects and, contestants competing in the seminar paper category are asked to give an oral presentation and deliver a paper. Students can compete individually or in teams for scholarships worth up to $500 and other awards including medals and trophies. The top prize in the physical and biological science categories is an all-expense paid trip to the International Intel Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, AZ, for both the student and a teacher sponsor.
